How is it done?
⚬ The course looks at the fundamental principles found in many classic dance styles
⚬ However, this course has the niio approach:
- using somatic awareness to access your inner world
- connection to the outer world through the elements and rhythms of life
- staying light-hearted, I always like to see the humour in life!
THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO DO THINGS
You may be worried that you will not be able to 'keep up' but there are no set sequences to follow.
Rather I introduce an idea or 'motif' that you can then develop in your dance.
And most importantly the idea is to listen in. I personally discourage being in front of a mirror, as it detracts from your own inner experience. But some people find it helpful to have a mirror in front of them at first, to see what they are doing. The choice is yours.
'Study' at your Pace
It can take time for new concepts to be fully embodied, and so this course can be taken in two parts.
We tend to put pressure on ourselves, but just like life, dance is not always pretty, regular or predictable.
Also your dance can vary from day to day, and from moment to moment.
Have a library of guided dance journeys at your fingertips, accompanied by a wide vary of music curated from some of the finest musicians and producers, ranging from eclectic to worldly, soulful, tribal and many layers in between.
Embody the dancer that you already have within!

As a Transformational Dance Facilitator and Coach, my mission is to help you reconnect to your soulful passion and purpose, to share your gifts and embody all that you are meant to be. I will guide you through your journey of discovery to presence, awareness and authentic truth.
Dance has picked me up and lifted me time and time again. It has been my best friend and medicine for my mind, body and soul. This is why I created Niio Dance.
Being a BBC or British Born Chinese my start in life was not plain sailing. I found it hard to ‘fit in and grew up a shy, serious student. However at a young age I discovered the freedom and joy of dance, and I fell in love.
I want you to reconnect with your 'joie de vivre' all through this amazing portal we have called our body. You can find your flow in the comfort and privacy of your own home, or outdoors - wherever you feel inspired, and I am there guiding you through the whole process. My studies have taken me from UK to India, Thailand and Japan and I have an MA in Dance and Somatic Wellbeing. I have explored yoga, meditation, different dance and body therapies and have presented talks and workshops in the UK and Europe.

Mind Sense Mastery
Some of the dances in the modules are quite energetic. So depending on the nature of your injury, you may need to move in a much more inward and gentle way, but there is always the possibility to move, even with quite 'severe' injuries. However, somatics is about 'listening into' your body and what it needs. You probably already know the answer. Or get the course, but know that you will revisit it again for a full bodied dance experience when your injury subsides.
Whilst it is optimal to be able to move freely in a wide expanse of space (which is one of the benefits of moving outdoors!), we can also move in much smaller spaces. Plus we can move and travel in many directions, not just across the floor!
Dress to be comfortable, in unrestricted clothes, and layers in case you get warm. You may need to take care of dancing on a carpet with bare feet, in case of friction, but normally bare feet is best.
The main issue is not your potential ability to move, as dance covers all kinds of movement - subtle, awkward, clumsy, irregular, erratic as well as slick or athletic. Dropping any expectations or judgements around yourself and your abilities is the first step in responding to your question! In doing so and relaxing, you may find that your perceived challenge around movement and dance may gradually dissolve.
As you sense into your body inspired by my cues, you may find new ways of moving that you had not done before. You will expand your movement potential, and experience a more clear and grounded presence that can filter into your interactions in life. You will 100% have a new experience of moving and being in your body.
No, it is not necessary to have done this course first.
Roots and Wings : Ignite your Creative Flow is a complete program that gives you a solid foundation into you and your living 'soma' - your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self, through somatic awareness, breath, movement and dance.
This course is based on traditional structures of dance: different ways to move, shapes, tempo and so on. It is infused with the Niio insight, but it is not a deep dive into our whole being that Roots and Wings is. It could even be that you would like to take this course AFTER Roots and Wings, when the concepts will have more depth and resonance, and you will be able to take your movement to a whole new level. There are no rules! Sense into what you feel you need.
NB: All the above are potential gains, dependant upon time and commitment invested, prior health conditions and personal constitution.
Our dance is a metaphor for our lives, and how many patterns, cycles and unpredictable events may there be. Some of the modules may feel more difficult than others to work through in their themes and concepts, and it may be interesting to reflect a little further on why that might be for you. This is why it is good to repeat and revisit different videos, as you will always have a different experience every time, because we are also never exactly the same again in any moment. Treat this, as with all the niio offerings as opportunities for little journeys into yourself. And I mean that in a light, explorative way, we get far too serious in life as we become adults, and this course is a great way to shake up rigid patterns and conditioning!
